第一次淞沪会战期间，苏州富家子弟周文与同学打赌，去前线慰问战士。在目睹了战争的残酷和中国军人的热血后，产生了弃笔从戎的念头。周文改名周卫国，参加了黄埔军校。因表现优异被派往德国军校，专修特种做战技术。在德国学习的过程中，他认识了日本派来的竹下俊。俩人在军校的学习生活中交为至交好友。1937年中日战争爆发，周卫国和竹下俊被召回各自的国家，两个好友最终无法避免在战场上兵戎相见的命运。周卫国归国后屡立奇功，却亲眼目睹了战友们相继死去，未婚妻也为避免日军侮辱，吞枪自尽。南京大屠杀后他逃出南京，决定北上参加八路军。周卫国到达抗日根据地，亲手训练出中国第一支特种作战分队屡立奇功，而竹下俊也组织了最精锐的日本特战队，与周针锋相对。最终，周卫国的特战队战胜了日本特种部队，将日军彻底赶出根据地，并迎来了抗战的最后胜利。
