《康熙微服私访记》第三部分为三个单元，第一单元《锦袍记》、第二单元《食盒记》、第三单元《铃铛记》，每个单元独立成章，该剧将沿袭一、二部借古喻今、欢乐与忧伤结合的风格。不同的是《康》剧第三部节奏比前两部更加紧凑，人物侧重方面也有所变化，宜妃和三德子将作为主要人物演绎康熙私访期间发生的故事。
此剧为京剧、昆曲文武老生传统戏之一，全剧通唱曲牌，亦文亦武，在别母、中箭、殉城等场次中，有繁难的身段表演及曲牌演唱。川剧、湘剧、桂剧、秦腔、同州梆子、河北梆子均有此剧目，徽剧名《别母乱箭》。
