西岛秀俊主演的特别电视剧《名侦探：明智小五郎》将于2019年连续2夜在朝日电视台播出。江户川乱步小说中登场的私人侦探？本作品的舞台是由西岛饰演明智小五郎的现代日本，网络犯罪的威胁正在悄悄逼近。网络安全企业“AK物流”的原CEO兼现任顾问明智挑战了蔓延于世的网络犯罪。第1夜“SHADOW警察数据库泄露、犯罪者连续杀人”中，以警察的数据库流出为契机，发生了犯罪者连续杀人事件。第2夜《VAMPIRE巨大医院Cyber Jack》中，描写了袭击巨大医院的Cyber Jack。和明智搭档的警视厅搜查官？小林芳雄一角由伊藤淳史出演。明智的妻子？石田百合子的文代，小林的妻子？真由美由岸井由美饰演。然后，警视厅刑事部长让小林作为网络犯罪搜查的顾问去发掘明智？饰演浪越谦次朗的香川照之将出演者名单列在了一起。《检察官的夙愿》的作者酒井雅秋执笔剧本，由《民王》的导演木村厦担任。西岛评述说，“以天知茂为首，过去由许多演员饰演的明智小五郎，在现代版中将如何制作出来呢？从我询问企划内容的时候开始，我就对其产生了兴趣”。“在现场，剧本上写的东西由于导演的想法而膨胀了2倍、3倍，每一个场景都会发生预想不到的有趣之处。总之个性十足的演员们都聚集在一起，从现在开始非常期待和大家在一起。”。
该剧原为TNT的项目，以剧名《红颜祸水 Deadlier Than The Male》 在2017年4月获得试映集预定，2018年2月获得正式剧集预定，6月时改名《说出你的秘密 Tell Me Your Secrets》，2018年中下旬正式开拍。全剧于2018-2019年完成拍摄后一直被搁置，随着华纳整体节目策略调整，被高层认为不适合TNT。尽管是华纳自家联合制片，华纳既不打算上线HBO Max，也不考虑寻找新平台播出。
