于是哈金斯组织了一群非常有篮球天分的黑人学生作为西德州联队的核心，开始了他艰苦的光荣之路。这些黑人球员连真正的篮球与街球的区别都不知道，而且他们对种族问题极度敏感，可是这些内部问题与外部的大环境相比根本算不得什么，整个学校的人从上到下都认为哈金斯疯了。
作为作词者，阿久悠所创作的大量名作点亮了那个时代的色彩。阿久悠的歌曲被世人称为“人气制造机”，即便是在今天也热度不减。阿久的妻子·熊子（松下奈绪饰）看着女高中生们口中哼着自己丈夫所创作的歌曲，想起了与阿久初相识的故事…… 昭和38年（1963年），那个时候阿久悠还叫深田公之，他在一家广告代理店工作，是一名工薪职员，也就是这个时候，他与妻子熊子相识，一拍即合的两人开始交往，并于第二年结婚。自此，阿久开始偷偷地在公司里做起了放送作家的兼职，并且开始使用笔名“阿久悠”。 一直以来都想从事“写作”这一工作的阿久不久就辞去了广告代理店的工作，成了一名自由放送作家。并且他开始挑战写歌词，并在这个领域发挥自己的才能，由他作词、森山加代子演唱的《白蝴蝶的桑巴》一出世就迅速走红，并取得超高人气。“想创作出引领时代的流行歌曲”，阿久一边这样想着，一边做出了成为职业作词者的决定。阿久变得越来越忙，两三个月才回一次家，只留妻子熊子与儿子太郎在家中苦苦等待。 昭和46年（1971年），阿久受日本电视台制片人池泽（八岛智人）邀请，一同启动了一档新节目。池田说，“我想从电视台生产明星”，并打算启动一档新的选秀节目。池泽来向阿久寻求方案，阿久提案了一种全新的节目风格，那就是将选秀过程全透明化。传说中的选秀节目《明星诞生》便由此开始。 阿久决定亲自担任节目评委，终于，《明星诞生》开播了。 但是，阿久、池泽和节目的工作人员所期盼的明星候选生却寥寥无几，节目一开始便陷入了极大的困难之中……
