本作品主角三桥廉是个希望自己成为所属球队王牌投手的少年，在中学时期被认为靠着爷爷是三星学园经营者的关系，才能成为该校棒球部的王牌投手，因此队友对三桥有着极大的反感，结果不但造成其在中学三年一胜难求，更导致他懦弱、自卑又孤僻的个性，甚至一度考虑放弃棒球。
