黄飞鸿(张卫健饰)，黄麒英的儿子，不但功夫好，且为人侠义为怀，在“宝芝林”赠医施药，誉满广东。当地另一武馆馆主洪霸妒忌他，邀请高手仇千丈(释行宇饰)来粤，要在醒狮大会上痛击飞鸿。果然，在醒狮大会上，飞鸿与徒弟林世荣(林子聪饰)，梁宽(郑晓东饰)，牙擦苏(张嘉伦饰)等，遭到仇千丈及洪霸的伏击；幸好得师叔苏乞儿(王晶饰)之助，终击败仇千丈而夺标。洪霸把仇千丈及其患了重病的妻儿赶走，飞鸿相助千丈，不料阴差阳错，无法医好仇妻儿的病。他们死后，仇千丈极度哀伤，竟迁怒于飞鸿，发誓有生之年，非击败黄飞鸿不可。黄麒英早为飞鸿说定，与方家留洋学医、刚刚归国的大小姐芷桦(陈炜饰)的亲事。芷桦私下往醒狮大会看看飞鸿的卢山真面目，怎知当时舞狮头的是林世荣，芷桦误会了他便是飞鸿，也顾不了父母反对，即逃往香港。黄麒英命飞鸿带众徒往香港开设宝芝林分馆。飞鸿师徒到达香港后，几经艰苦才得到香港富商周炳(李国华饰)的帮助，开设了宝芝林分馆。此时却来了个日本武痴，武田秀一(吴庆哲饰)，向飞鸿挑战。他的妹妹武田静香(小王晶饰)
