该剧描写了晚清举人程华强，弃官之后改卖米线，并把过桥米线做成了“天下一碗”的故事。该剧大部分外景都在红河州内拍摄，是央视首次将历史传统小吃的故事表现为“吃文化”的大戏。片中女主公对过桥米线独到精心的追求，被誉为中国版的《大长今》。
